January 2009 Ombudsman for Children - Separated Children Project Separated children are children who have had to leave their home countries and families because of danger, discrimination, intimdation, poverty or fear. For some, trafficking, racism, discrimination and poverty are part of their everyday lives here in Ireland. Add to that lonliness, the trauma of separation from their parents and loved ones, depression and the physical and psychological damage they have endured. They are in the asylum system here in Ireland and are in the care of the HSE. The Ombudsman for Children’s Office decided to take on this under-the-radar issue in their programme of work. Before Christmas they launched the outcomes of that amazing piece of work which involved 35 extraordinary separated children from many different countries. The OCO invited PCC, from a very early point in the project, to become involved in a very deep way in brainstorming the possible elements; in engaging with some of the children who participated, and; in producing the key tools and materials. There are four principal outputs from the initiative which we helped produce – a guidebook compiled by the young people, a story book setting out their stories, a project report to the Oireachtas and an audio DVD of excerpts from their moving stories. The OCO is a wonderful, visionary and effective organisation to work with and we’re always very excited and committed to the wonderful and important projects we get to assist with. StartStrong is committed to advancing high quality care and education as a right for all young children in Ireland. Thier advocacy is built on clear evidence of the benefits this brings for children, for the economy and for society. Start Strong works to promote informed policy development and increased investment in young children. They support their advocacy with new research and the analysis of good practice. In particular, we are working to encourage the development of a 10-year national plan to bring early care and education in Ireland up to the highest international standards by 2020. Start Strong was originally founded in 2004 as the Irish Childcare Policy Network (ICPN), a coalition of organisations and individuals interested in progressing childcare and early learning policies in Ireland. We completed this rebranding exercise for the Irish Childcare Policy Network in December 2009. Get the flash player here: http://www.adobe.com/flashplayer

Dolphin Decides was a truly unique and exciting project. PCC won the tender to assist the community of Dolphin House, the largest inner city flat complex on Dublin's southside, to define and present their informed vision around their own regeneration. PCC partnered up with Community Action Network and the task involved best-practice community consultation, strategic communications and the drafting, editing, design and print of a suite of key communications tools including branding, newsletters, flyers, point of display and publications.
